New York Noir

Burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo

in the machinery of night,

incomparable blind streets of shuddering cloud

and lightning in the mind, illuminating all

the motionless world of Time between

- Allen Ginsberg

This collection grew out of the twelve years I lived in New York City. I loved wandering the city at night with my camera seeking liminal visions, moments when familiar places seemed to transform into another state of being. Neon shimmered on wet pavement. Bridges dissolved into mist. Landmarks became something stranger and more dreamlike.

These images revisit some famous places including the Empire State Building, the Verrazano Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge, SoHo, DUMBO, the Chrysler Building, Times Square, and the New York Public Library, transformed by a way of seeing.

Suspended somewhere between history, dreams, and the restless energy of New York itself, they reveal currents of time and mystery flowing through the very fabric of the city.
